After a 12 hour journey on the overnight sleeper train from Bangkok to Surat Thani it was another hour to Khao Sok National Park. Khao Sok National Park is located in southern Thailand in the province of Surat Thani. The National Park has the highest level of rainforest in Thailand due to the high mountains.
Arriving at the port 16 of us boarded a small wooden boat including all our bags. We were welcomed by the high limestone mountains and evergreen rainforest, it was beautiful. We cruised around the large lake stopped in the scorching sun to jump in the lake, after a refreshing swim in the lake around caves and surrounded by high mountains we then set off to our accommodation for the night.
As we arrived at our accommodation in was like a picture of paradise, wood bungalows in the middle of the lake surrounded by the large mountains it was picturesque. The wooden bungalows were floating in the middle of the lake, set side from a large central building with toilets and a dining area. As we walked along a rickety makeshift wooden walkway to the bungalows, approached our bungalow. Very basic with just a thin mattress and a mosquito net with a small window.
Khao Sok was a highlight of my Thailand trip, arriving from smelly and busy Bangkok it was luxurious. We spent the day relaxing and swimming in the lakes, sunbathing in rubber tubes on the lake. We took a boat trip around the lake looking out for wildlife including monkeys, rats, birds and inspects. Arriving back at the bungalow I was greeted by a cheeky monkey wandering around eating some left over food.
